5 Adult-Approved Halloween Themed Drinks easy to make with whiskey

We get it; you outgrew the trick-or-treating and the costumes a long time ago. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get in the Halloween spirit! And what better way to get into the Halloween spirit than with some Halloween spirits? To celebrate the ghoulish holiday, the team at SIPDark.com decided to bring you our favorite festive drinks – so you can celebrate Halloween like an adult. From spooky black beverages to pumpkin-themed cocktails, here are the best drinks to serve at your Halloween party (or to sip when you’re hiding from trick-or-treaters).

1. The Tootsie Roll

Okay, so for fans of How I Met Your Mother, we admit – this recipe is a bit different than the fictional cocktail from the show. Thanks to the coffee in this beverage (perfect for adults who need to be up all night with candy-fueled children), the drink comes out a spooky black hue.

Ingredients:

1 ½ ounce Kahlua

6 ounce Root beer

1/2 ounce Whiskey (of your choice)

How to Make:

First, fill a high ball or tall glass to the brim with ice. Next, pour the Kahlua and whiskey into the glass. Add the root beer to the mixture. Stir lightly so the mixture blends. Lastly, and most importantly, enjoy! We recommend, for a little-added flare, buying some of your favorite Halloween themed gummies (maybe some candy corn or gummy pumpkins) from your local store. To garnish, skewed the gummies with a stirring spoon or toothpick.

2. The Cinnamon Candy Apple

Were candy apples your favorite treat to receive in your trick-or-treat bag? Then you will love this candy apple cocktail. Plus, the layered look of this cocktail makes it a perfect party trick for impressing any company you may have. If you have not made a layered cocktail before, keep in mind – the densest liquor is poured first. If you are new at layering, try using a small spoon (place at a 45-degree angle) when pouring the liquor – it’ll make the layering much easier! This cocktail has all the delicious cinnamon and apple flavors of your favorite childhood candy apples, but with a boozy finish.

Ingredients:

1 ounce Fireball whiskey

¾ ounce apple liquor

1/2 ounce Goldschlager liquor

Red food coloring

How to Make:

Place a martini glass on the counter (preferably chilled – meaning place the glass in the fridge at least half an hour before serving). Then, pour the apple liquor into the glass. Next, sing a spoon, add the Goldschlager to the glass. After that, in a separate container, combine the Fireball and add two dashes of red food coloring. Add the mixture (using a spoon if needed) to the martini glass. To garnish, we recommend topping the mixture with a small slice of apple peel for decoration. Now, it’s time to enjoy!

3. The Halloween Hot Toddy

For all you parents out there who are stuck doing the laps of the block with your kids as they trick or treat – why not bring an adult cider to keep you warm? A Hot Toddy is a classic beverage designed to keep you warm and happy on colder days. This take on the cocktail adds a little Halloween flare.

Ingredients:

1 oz Fireball

1 tbsp of honey (depending on your sweet tolerance)

1 cinnamon stick

1 slice of lemon

1 tbsp cinnamon powder

How to make:

Put the kettle on the stove While you are waiting for the kettle to boil add the Fireball, honey, a large dash of cinnamon powder, and lemon juice to a traveler’s mug. Feel free to add more or less Fireball, depending on how much cinnamon you like. When the water is boiled, add the hot water to a mug, and stir. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and squeeze in a fresh lemon wedge. Enjoy!

4. The Pumpkin Spice Cocktail

Ladies everywhere have been freaking out about the pumpkin spice latte, but have you tried a pumpkin spice cocktail? The delicious drink is the perfect way to ring in the fall!

Ingredients:

2 oz pumpkin puree

1 tbsp honey

1 dash of lemon juice

2 oz whiskey

3 dashes ginger beer

1 cinnamon stick (for garnish)

1 tbsp cinnamon powder

How to Make:

To make, add the pumpkin puree, the honey, the lemon juice, and the bourbon to a cocktail shaker. Add ice to the shaker, and shake for fifteen seconds. When the outside of the shaker starts to frost, you know it is done. Add ice to a low rocks glass. Add the cocktail shaker’s contents into the rocks glass, straining as you go. If you don’t own a cocktail shaker, don’t worry! A good stir will do just fine. To finish, add a large dash of cinnamon powder to the mixture. Garnish with a cinnamon stir stick and serve!

5. The Chocolate Orange

Looking for a cocktail that has a little bit of excitement but still has all the delicious flavors of whiskey? Then look no further than this whiskey-based cocktail. The cocktail is a twist on the traditional old fashioned, but it has hints of chocolate and orange instead of the usual bitters and cherries.

Ingredients:

3 oz whiskey

1 spoonful sugar

Chocolate bitters

1 orange

1 muddler

How to Make:

Chill a rocks glass in the fridge for half an hour prior to the start of the cocktail. Peel a large strip off an orange. Add the orange peel, the spoonful of sugar, and four dashes of chocolate bitters to the glass. Muddle the mixture in the bottom of the glass so you extract the essence of the orange from the orange peel. Add several ice cubes and the whiskey and stir, dissolving the sugar. When all the sugar is fully dissolved – enjoy!
